TAINTED&&
Tainted coughed a little, fluffing up his tawny pelt. It wasn't very cold, but here under the trees the sun was blocked out, and shade spewed out in every direction. The large tom shivered a bit. The air was warm, but the shade took away from the warmth he felt. He stood up and began pawing at a leaf, jumping and playing like a young kit to keep warm.
A mouse ran by, frightened by Tainted scrambling in the dirt. Startled, the tom lashed out with unsheathed claws at the creature before him. Blinking stupidly, he looked at the mouse he had just killed. Had he done that? He knew he was a bad hunter, and most of his food was not hunted. True, this catch was total fluke, but did that matter? He didn't think so. What mattered was the fact that he had actually killed and by doing so technically hunted another living thing. Part of him felt happy, and the other part of him was sick with himself for priding himself on a mistake.
Tainted sniffed the little mouse, and delicately took a bite, savouring the sweet taste. He still felt guilty, but he pushed that part of himself away. Looking up at the trees to distract himself with something else, he realized he hadn't a clue to where he was. He had wandered from the place he had called his temporary home a few days ago, because of the increasing hostility of those Clancats. He curled his lip. They were all cheaters and scum, working together to scare other cats off their territory. He couldn't understand why anyone would want to join those lazy lumps.
Tainted finished off the mouse, and lay his large head down on his paws, flitting his eyes open and closed. He needed sleep, but wasn't going to fall into a deep sleep out here in the woods.

:: rain
Warm sun filtered down, dappling the pelt of an ashen brown tabby with splashes of light and dark. A particularly bright ray of sunshine fell on her face, lighting up her blue eyes for just a moment before she moved on and the sunspot trailed down her body. Soon it was just another pool of light on the floor of the forest RainClan called Talltrees for its conspicuously tall trees.
The she-cat's tail was held high, a sense of arrogance in her stance and gait. She wasn't very big, slender and lithe, but muscles rippled under her short, thinning fur. She was the leader of RainClan and for what it was named.
Rain's head tilted at a small sound, and a new, strange scent from a denser, darker part of the forest. She sniffed and scurried to the nearest tree, feeling the safest route was along the twining branches.
Climbing the tree was easy - the lowest branch was only a few foxlengths off the ground. On it, she formed her balance and made her way up and out, landing as lightly as she could to make as little noise as possible.
Sure enough, a strange cat was feasting on one of her mice. Her jaws parted in a silent hiss and she positioned herself directly above him. It was a large cat, a spotted tom. Larger than any cat she'd ever seen. But no worries. With size came sluggishness, most often, and Rain was small and quick.
"That's RainClan prey," she growled from the tree branch, hurling herself down just a tail-length or two away. Her fur was bristling, eyes glittering and yet empty at the same time if that was possible. Ears flat, tail fuzzed out behind her, claws slipping from their sheathes and teeth bared. "Either leave or fight."

TAINTED&&
Tainted seemed to be in a state of bliss, lying beneath an old tree he could not distinguish by name. His eyes flickered ever so slightly, and the intervals in which they opened got longer and longer. His eyes had been closed for a prelonged period of time when he heard a strange voice from above him, and for a few moments he believed that he was dreaming.
"RainClan prey..." he muttered, unaware of a light tabby's presence above him. Then, he heard a distinct thump not far away from him, and his eyes opened. Seeing a cat standing there, with bristling fur and mouse agape with hostility, he suddenly sprang backwards in fear, letting out a deranged caterwaul as he went. He took a deep breath and looked back at the foreign tabby.
"Fight you?" he asked after he had caught his breath. A look of perplexity came upon his face. "Why would I want to do that?"
Then his face transformed into a stern look. What was this cat doing here, scaring him in his sleep? He advanced a step toward her, calm and cool, without any seemingly aggressive movements.
"What do you think you were doing, creeping up on me like that?" he sighed, and added loftily, almost to himself. "Are there no decent cats left in this world?"

ooc: Trying to display her paranoia a bit more ;D
:: rain
Never back down. One of the first things she'd been taught as a Clan cat. A true warrior only fled when they were badly injured. Rain was neither injured or a coward, but a true warrior. So she stood her ground as the large tom advanced toward her, blue eyes glittering with fury and pride. This was Rain's territory now, not the territory of this stupid loner who would be so content to just eat up all her prey and then be so arrogant to sleep afterwards!
"I should ask you the same thing!" Rain spat, not moving a mouselength. "Stealing prey, trespassing on our territory and then sleeping like we should be gracious to have you stinking up Talltrees!" she hissed, tempted to spring at his throat now and save her breath.
Rain's eyes flashed with understanding. He was spying! "Get out! Get out or I'll kill you for spying! Go tell Whitestar everything you know, I don't care. RainClan is strong. We can fight off anything," she snarled. Without further warning, she sprang at the tom, claws unsheathed and teeth bared.

TAINTED&&
As Rain spat, a thin line of saliva came out of her mouth and hit Tainted square in the nose. His face scrunched up as he attempted to view the icky substance residing just diagonal to his left nostril. This was not good.
Taunts and insults and hisses he could handle.
A strange crazy she-cat spitting on him was out of the question. He felt his muscles bunch, and even though part of his mind knew he could not hurt the tabby, the other part muted the little voice yelling "Stop!" in his head. However, before he could move, the she-cat interrupted him with accusations of spying. Spying? He wasn't a spy. This cat was clearly delusional.
"What are you - " he began, but without any prior warnings, other than perhaps her hostility in general, the tabby she-cat leapt at him.
He let out a yowl of shock and turned tail, leaping into the tree that he had been preparing to have a good, long sleep under. His claws caught the bark, but he still slowly descended as his claws chipped away more of the dark brown bark. During his journey down the tree, he continued to emit strange, quick, almost bark-like yowls. He didn't want to go back into the claws of that monster.
But despite his efforts to stay in the tree, he slipped down to the ground, and looked at the tabby.
'Don't eat me!" he begged in a whine. He was quite sure she was capable of cannabalism.

:: rain
Her paws hit grass where the tom had just been, and she swiftly reacted to start climbing the tree after him. But the intruder slipped and fell back down. Rain growled and made it to the lowest branch only to jump back down again fluidly, advancing on the cowering tom.
"Eat you? Don't be stupid, cat," Rain hissed, amazed that any cat could be so idiotic. "Why would I eat you? There's plenty of prey in the forest for me to crunch. You're probably flavourless anyway," she taunted, amused by his cowardly persona.
Still tense and ready to attack if he even so much as looked like he was thinking of running, Rain's fur laid down. Curiosity shone more in her eyes than hostility now, although some was still visible. "What's your name, cat? Why are you here?" she asked more calmly, a sudden near-serenity settling over her. She was still wary of spying and wouldn't let the tom get away in case he was going to report back to Whitestar.
No way. She'd drag him back to camp if she had to, even if he was so much bigger than her and it was a long way back.
